SurgiPath & Cytology Lab

Surgipath & Cytology Lab has been in existence since 1993…

The lab was founded by Dr. Jennifer Mamby-Alexander to offer specialized medical services to the Jamaican population. The products of the lab provide more accurate diagnosis for common ailments; that either often get misdiagnosed in archaic methods or missed. Surgipath & Cytology Lab was the first in the island to introduce Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy, a non-invasive method of extracting cells for research into types of diseases and remains the only non-hospital-based institution to offer the service to this day.

Surgipath and Cytology Lab is the only certified laboratory in Jamaica that offers the Thinprep method of conducting Papanicolaou (pap) smears. This is a liquid based system that uses a thin strip of cells to make a diagnosis, in a process that eliminates the contaminants that are often present in traditional pap smears.

Surgipath & Cytology lab operates true to its value statement, Committed to Accuracy, by ensuring that every Jamaican has access to medical services that are keen on ensuring early diagnosis to guide effective treatment and recovery.
